Your so right... people...Awww... thanks Pastor Jim. Your so right... people are repelled. You know, I have never seriously considered ANY lifestyle change that has been shoved down my throat.
But when people lovingly share their own testimony, and leave it at that... it usually speaks volumes.

If someone had told me: YOU HAVE TO WEAR SOMETHING ON YOUR HEAD and pinned a kleenex on with a bobby pin (as I have heard Nuns do on occasions of the past) I would probably rebel. However, if someone would just do it and if I ask, testify to the joy they have in submitting to God and their husband... I would be very interested to learn more.

Joy is usually irresistable.

Blessings,
kellyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15828406457111434861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-2607969971489208272008-08-05T11:59:00.000-07:002008-08-05T11:59:00.000-07:00Mrs. Hunt,You summed it up well: "Be kind to each ...Mrs. Hunt,

You summed it up well: "Be kind to each other. Pray for each other. Love each other. Don't judge, be content in your own conviction."

It's often the kind of judgmental attitudes you described that cause many to reject Christ -- they are attracted to Jesus (He did say He would draw all men to Himself) but repelled by His Bride.

Thanks for another challenging post."pastor" Jim Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01236756855278850706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-22507530437974895832008-08-05T07:52:00.000-07:002008-08-05T07:52:00.000-07:00Kristen,This is JUST the type of behavior that mak...Kristen,

This is JUST the type of behavior that makes me nutty.

I know (and I know YOU know) many Mennonite families that are not QF. Here's the thing: WHY do people make it their business???

If it was any other issue, they would be gently leading by example, and letting their own lived speak for themselves.

Personally, I think a majority of the women that are so zealous, are converts, and converts tend to be rather over-enthusiastic about many topics. This one just happens to be personal, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing. You have a beautiful family and your Quiver is indeed full.

Blessings,
KellyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15828406457111434861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-47588371011978130542008-08-05T07:40:00.000-07:002008-08-05T07:40:00.000-07:00Carla,I completely agree. You have to understand, ...Carla,

I completely agree. You have to understand, at 21, I was not a Christian, was being *bullied* by my husband and his Mother to tie my tubes, and basically was told how *selfish* I was to want more children. Funny... I ALWAYS wanted a large family.
By the time I was serving The Lord with any serious intent, I was in my 30's. By the time I learned about the whole QF philosophy, I was in my very late 30's and in my 40's when this group attacked me.
I never put any expectations on God to supercede my tubal ligation, but if my husband doesn't want children, I didn't see going against him as biblical either. I believe at this point, I had to lie in the bed I made.

I know a couple who is new to the Mennonite Faith. They have 5 children. The family is a mess. The parents are extremely unhealthy, (over-wieght), the children are emotion wrecks and there has been so much physical and emotional abuse in this family that I couldn't in good conscience advise them to keep going until they can manage what they have already. Additionally; they are barely making ends meet.

Appalachia; Lots of spiritual people there... lots of good Christians. Many cannot afford to feed their families and live in absolute poverty.

I just don't believe QF is a mandate. The bible says "Be fruitful and multiply." It doesn't say anywhere that to take this concept to excessive, obcessive extremes, regardless of the circumstances.

But I AGREE with you that I had no business having a tubal. I also hold my ex husband, his mother, and the doctor who performed a permanant procedure on a 21 year old partially responsible as well... but i will take the brunt of the blame. Stupid choices result in much grief in the long run.

Blessings,

KellyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15828406457111434861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-85406038147043124322008-08-04T20:18:00.000-07:002008-08-04T20:18:00.000-07:00I used to think it was sin not to be quiverfull. ...I used to think it was sin not to be quiverfull. Now I believe that it's not in any way a go to hell sin, I just think by tying your tubes or whatever, you are stopping what God calls a reward and a blessing, and that's a real shame. Not a sin, just a shame.
I used to wonder too, about all those people in places like Africa and India and why they had large families yet were not blessed, but I think the reason why is that they worship idols, not God. I think there will always be Christians who suffer and die for their faith, but for the most part, as David says in Psalms, the righteous don't beg for bread. Those of us with large families may not have what other people have, but we have what we need.
If your tubes are tied, I think it would be a very rare thing for God to go against what you have done, and bring about a pregnancy. In other words, you 'broke' yourself on purpose, I don't think God will work around that - MOST of the time. I know people who get pregnant after they take those measures, but it seems to be the ones who don't want it to happen, like my own daughter, although her three babies she conceived after tying her tubes didn't make it.
Anyway, that is my take on the whole thing. It's not something you will lose your salvation over, but what a shame to put a limit on what God calls a reward and a blessing!!
By the way, Kelly, I'd be willing to say I've probably been attacked more often for HAVING a large family, than you have for NOT having one!!Carla Raleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17953968611271124689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-1714299410641175112008-08-04T18:46:00.000-07:002008-08-04T18:46:00.000-07:00amen amen amen amenI have been attacked before bec...amen amen amen amen

I have been attacked before because I have three children and that is all I will ever have (unless a mirrical happens) because of health issues.

(I can't seem to spell tonight)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10164415812686349333noreply@blogger.com
