Me? not so much. I have to wake up over coffee first. Black socks? I am the queen. Love them, but I have some grays in there too. But the M/A stores are the best place to find them to fit my old legs. I'm a bit plainer than you, but that doesn't make my life anymore A/M than yours. Less, in fact, considering my "standing". I miss the "old days" of groups and lists where I interacted with all the wannabees. But, I gave up on them when I was blackballed by some. You know me... always starting fires. Great blog gal! I have been dressing skirts only (below the knee) for almost 10 years and 4 months ago started wearing a simple VERY wide headband (like found at Walmart), the kind that cover pretty much the entire top of my head and I match the color to my attire that day. I have been studying covering for about a year and finally the conviction to cover was so great that I could no longer ignore it. I love the article because my group of Christian friends range in so many types of clothing and only a select few cover. I have a really good friend who is traditional Mennonite and the Church she attends wears the cape dresses and the traditional long triangle veil that covers whole head and hair. Then I have another friend that wears a covering like myself and dresses midestly midern w/very ling skirts. Another friend is German Baptistt and she wears the cape dress but it is cur like a triangle in the front and she wears an Amish style see thru prayer Kapp w/strings tied under chin. These are all in Ohio. Yesterday in MD at the grocery store there was another Mennonite family that was dressed in a short sleeve cape dress but she had a Kapp without strings. So many coverings but they are all so beautiful! I like this post. I have an own blog now - ...Hello! I like this post. I have an own blog now - in german, as I didn´t find a blog concerning headcovering - and recommending it - in german.
I think if I wore a lace veil or something like a mennonite´s way to cover, my brothers and sisters would feel a fence between us. Or I would. I am in a church where no one covers. And I have no church around where women cover. So I felt alone with it. I started (again) in Aug. ´10 to cover. It is the most time a bandana or s.th. more a "jewish" style, even though I don´t hide all my hair.
People - not believers, too - said, it looks great...but that makes me think about: I don´t want to look good. I want to confess my faith. But deep inside I feel I should use that covering I do right now, and I think it should be accepted by my husband, too.
But one point is what I want to figure out: Cover your head not as the mainstream commands you. Do it as it fits to your style, your heart, your personnal relationship to God. And don´t forget - it doesn´t make you holier :)
Sorry for mistakes in my "german english".
My blog is http://saved-and-veildes.com --english comments are welcomenadiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12830426897260143315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-83527820706148055292010-12-04T17:39:52.764-08:002010-12-04T17:39:52.764-08:00Hi Kelly, I found your blog somehow by accident, a...Hi Kelly, I found your blog somehow by accident, and I am so glad I did. I have been researching the Mennonites for awhile now, and I LOVE what I have learned about them. I really want to meet them and fellowship with them also some day. I don't have any in my area right now. I have been struggling so in this area though, as my husband and family don't see things like I do! I would easily become plain and live their lives if it was just me, but I cannot. I would love to talk to you more since we seem to have alot in common. My husband is anti-uniform-wearing too.
The church I attend now (Mennonite) allows the women to wear what they want, and have *guidelines* for members. Each person chooses their own modest style of clothing. Some have kept the cape-dress, and others have gone to a more progressive look with 3/4 length blouses paired with skirts. Kind of the *Cato Fashion* look, and less *homespun*. Either one is fine to me as long as it's modest.

Oh, and the turning to kneel and pray? That was new to me too with the Mennonites. I like it. It's so humble. I read this posting to my husba...Wow can we relate! I read this posting to my husband tonight and it was like a reflection of our lives. I have been practicing covering for services since this summer and I enjoy this greatly. My husband is very supportive of this as he agreed that there was an obedience issue with covering that I needed to recognize and follow the word of God. It has been hard looking for churches as a covering woman because heads are definately turned by it in this community. The fact that I was previously a well known teacher in the area also played a part in this and I felt a great judgement was upon me from others in the church that were members of the local educational community. Now, I often switch back and forth between a white veil and a brown or black lace covering that does not draw as much attention.
As far as church searching go we walked out of an Church of God church after being there for four years because we too wanted the smaller congregation with greater fellowship between believers. In other words we wanted supportive God fearing people around us that would make sure we didn't want to get lost in the shuffle. We have been to a great number of churches in our area including AOG, Baptist, Calvary Chapel, and Mennonite. I was very much interested in the Mennonite church for a long time and I too developed a bit of an obsession researching both the roots of the religion and that of the Amish. In the end we have attended the Conservative Mennonite church in our town only twice and each time my husband's main issue was that he didn't want to wear a "uniform to church". I personally loved it all. I homeschool my oldest daughter with Amish and Mennonite curriculum and enjoy Mennonite publications often so this was all normal to me except turning around to kneel to pray. That was a first for me in a church. Either way I would have liked to continue going and maybe we will go again someday but for now we are bouncers going from church to church trying to find someplace to fit us. So, really I have no advise than to keep the faith and keep looking until you too find someplace that will work. I do make my own kapps with us being differently-abled and on fixed incomes. Most times I use gathers for my kapps because pleats drive me crazier than I am already! I came up with my own kapp design after visiting the Burell families website. It wasn't hard at all! At home I do tend to wear a little crochet caplet I made since we are remodeling it makes more sense to do so.Michelle-ozark crafterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02854922223445105068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-68225461502755010672010-05-28T06:12:26.366-07:002010-05-28T06:12:26.366-07:00Emily, from what I understand about the headcoveri...Emily, from what I understand about the headcovering, it is representing a woman's role in general. It's the headship order of God first, Man second, and women are under man.
It's not relative to society, but to God and his kingdom. You would be showing appropriate submission and reverence to GOD when you pray.

Whether you feel called to cover 24-7 or just for prayer and worship would be your personal conviction. Now, some conservative Menno's argue that they are not REAL Anabaptists because they were modern clothing, cut their hair (women) and wear make-up. But I see them excercising the love of Christ so fervently everytime there is a disaster. That isn't to say that others don't- But their primary focus is PEACE. (gggrrr!)...Sorry- the link didn't come through. (gggrrr!)

From Let Her Be Veiled (you can google this too)

2. The woman's long hair takes the place of a veiling.

(See exposition on verse 15).

In verse 15 of 1 Cor. 11, Paul is, in part, appealing to an illustration from nature (the long hair for women versus the short hair for men) to clarify the necessity of the veiling. Certainly he isn't contradicting everything he had said thus far in verses 3-13 about the importance of the veiled head. Again, the word translated 'covering' in verse 15 is peribolaion, which means "something cast around", as opposed to the word translated covering, uncovered, etc. in the previous verses - katakalupto, which means "something which covers completely and hangs down". Paul obviously used an entirely different word in verse 15 so as to not confuse the natural hair covering with the veiling.

If one thinks that her hair is the only covering implied in this chapter, they need only replace the word 'covering' in verses 4, 5, 6, 7, and 13 with the word 'hair', and they will quickly see how absurd such a notion is.

The final blow to this argument is found in verse 6, where Paul says "If a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn". The word 'also' (kai) can't but be implying an artificial covering besides the hair. To paraphrase this verse with this assumption in mind, it would read, "If her head is not covered with hair, then let her hair be cut." How can you cut something that isn't there?!

The long hair alone is not the sign of authority spoken of in verse 10 since anyone, male or female, Christian or non-Christian, could have it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15828406457111434861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228193432927508415.post-84285884386029665322010-04-18T12:36:18.607-07:002010-04-18T12:36:18.607-07:00Sorry Lori- I have been meaning to come back and a...Sorry Lori- I have been meaning to come back and answer you.
